About

A practical set of browser-based tools for exploring sound, checking left and right playback channels, and reviewing frequency ranges.

What this site does

Online Tone Generator is a free browser-based tool for creating audio tones from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. You can change the frequency, volume, and waveform while a tone is playing. The sound is generated locally using your browser’s Web Audio API.

No account, installation, or file upload is required to use the tool.

Tools available

  • Tone generator: play sine, square, triangle, and sawtooth waveforms, with precise frequency adjustment.
  • Frequency sweep: play a changing sine-wave frequency, mark a point, hold it, and recheck a nearby range.
  • Speaker and headphone checks: play short left- and right-channel test tones and compare selected low frequencies.

What these checks can and cannot tell you

The tone and speaker checks are intended for general audio exploration. They are not calibrated measurements, hearing tests, medical assessments, or professional speaker certification. Results vary with your device, speakers, headphones, hearing, and volume settings.

Start at a low listening volume. Do not raise the volume to compensate for a tone you cannot hear.
